His new role will focus on covering risk and capital finance for the life and pensions industry, he told Journalism.co.uk.
"The biggest challenge is writing stories with an institutional rather than retail facing angle that not only crams in all the detail, but which helps insurance and pensions professionals understand the complexities of risk and capital management," said Bicknell.
