He has been at Pensions Management for two years and was previously a staff writer and assistant editor with the title.
He won this year's Watson Wyatt Award for Best HR Journalist (Newcomer).
"Beware that the higher up you get, the less writing you do. If you got into journalism for the love of tracking down stories and writing them up, moving up the editorial ranks may not necessarily be the best thing to do," Walker said as his advice to would-be editors.
