Rob Minto has been appointed interactive web editor at the Financial Times and now faces the challenge of developing the newspaper's online services.

He will be responsible for boosting the polls, forums, podcasts and blogs on FT.com. The Financial Times already has a number of podcasts, including one from columnist Martin Wolf, and a well-established UK Business blog.

Mr Minto joined the Financial Times in May 2004, starting on the newdesk and later moving to the editorial department. He previously worked at weatherXchange, Incisive Media and Euromoney.

Simon Targett, Editor of FT.com, said: "Rob is an experienced online journalist and I know he will enhance our ever-expanding interactive coverage.

"This is an important job as we develop our interactive, podcast and video content on the website."
