The Telegraph has announced that it has appointed Chris Evans as its new news editor.

Thirty-eight year-old Mr Evans is to join the paper after spending 11 years working at the Daily Mail where he is currently news editor.

Prior to joining the news desk, Mr Evans wrote for the Mail's Femail section. He has previously held positions as a reporter in the London newsroom and as the newspaper's Bristol correspondent.

Will Lewis, editor of Telegraph, said: "I am delighted to have recruited Chris.  He is a news editor of the highest calibre and will play a pivotal role in helping to reshape the news room as we respond to the challenges of the digital age."
