Ashby steps up from deputy position at the Abu Dhabi based title

Tom Ashby has been named business editor at The National.

In his new role, he will manage a team of 23 business reporters and editors to produce news, features, opinion and analysis for the Abu Dhabi based seven-day broadsheet national newspaper and website.

In his opinion, the challenge is to engage the whole team in order to produce a world-class news product every day.

"The difference between being a reporter and an editor is leadership and news judgment," he said.

This week's jpod technology correspondent Sarah Marshall speaks to Liz Heron, social media editor of the New York Times – who has more than 260,000 Facebook subscribers – about why she is encouraging all foreign correspondents at the title to add the subscribe button.
