Tom Little, the former deputy editor of Scotland on Sunday, has been promoted to editor of the Edinburgh Evening News and deputy editor-in-chief of all Scotsman Publications.

Little's main challenge will be to 'keep the Evening News as a leader in an increasingly challenging market,' he said. "It is my job to make sure that the Evening News meets the needs of Edinburgh's discerning residents," he told Journalism.co.uk.

Prior to joining the Scotsman, where he held various positions, he worked for the Daily Record and other local papers, and for the Scottish government as media adviser for a short time.

He previously worked for the Edinburgh Evening News as Health Reporter in 1994/95.

He gives following advice to aspiring editors: "Work hard, put in the hours, build a good team and then trust them to do their jobs while you concentrate on yours."
