About the role
The deputy news editor’s key role will be to drive excellent news output on the fast paced and highly regarded Retail Week news desk.
You will be expected to help lead the news team and contribute to breaking news as well as features, blogs, analyses and comments across the magazine and website. You will help lead Retail Week’s on-going transformation to a truly digital first brand, and will be expected to come up with new and innovative ideas to deliver content to our subscribers.
You will be expected to break agenda setting news stories that are picked up in the national media and represent the Retail Week brand in the market and in the media, including TV.
About the person
You will have at least three years’ experience of writing breaking business news at speed as well as features. Knowledge or experience of the retail sector is a plus but not a necessity.
- Some experience of managing a team will be advantageous
- Experience of editing copy is critical
- Some experience of appearing on TV as an expert will be a bonus
- Digital skills, such as video/editing will be a bonus
The successful candidate will be able to work on their own initiative as well as working in a team and take direction.
You will also be able to lead a team in the news editor’s absence and be able to think on your feet and be decisive. You will be a self-starter, enthusiastic, organised and able to multi-task.
