Home Affairs and International Researchers – Foresight News
Foresight News, the UK’s leading forward-planning press diary, is looking for two enthusiastic, quick-learning and hard-working researchers to join our editorial team.
You’ll have a passion for current affairs and be looking to gain a foothold within the news industry, ideally interested in working in a news wire-type environment. We’re looking for someone who can multitask and work to multiple deadlines, and who is capable of getting to the heart of complex stories in punchy, easy-to-understand copy. Your role will involve researching forward planning news information, covering a wide variety of issues.
Great research, writing and organisational skills are a must, coupled with a willingness to pick up the phone and an understanding of the importance of confirming information at source. Experience of working within current affairs is preferable but not essential. The ideal candidate will also be enthusiastic about working with our editorial team to further develop our website and social media content, and will have a good understanding of how to use social media as a research tool.
Home Affairs Researcher
You’ll have an interest in UK domestic news, with a particular interest in crime and courts, security and immigration issues. You should be equally comfortable chasing up the next court date for the day’s biggest crime story and keeping an eye on the progress of a long-running inquest.
You may also be called upon to cover areas as diverse as sport, religion or the environment, so varied interests and an ability to adapt to different content areas as needed are beneficial.
You’ll have knowledge of or interest in some or all of the following: European politics, European institutions, Middle Eastern politics, international organisations and ongoing global conflicts and issues.
Knowledge of a second language (or more!) is strongly preferred; candidates who can speak and read Arabic would be a great asset to our team (but this is not essential).
Please note – these are not reporting positions. You will not be writing full-length articles, but will instead be responsible for researching a variety of different stories every day at the forefront of developing news.
How to apply
If you’re interested, please send a covering letter and CV by March 14 to firstname.lastname@example.org with FSN Home Affairs or FSN International in the subject line or please click the "apply online" button below.
We are looking to interview immediately with a view to starting as soon as possible
