The fast-moving affordable housing sector is top of the news agenda right now, with its economic impact and the implications of welfare reform policies frequently in the mainstream press, so we’re looking for someone with a keen eye for news to source exclusives and the ability to react quickly to breaking stories.
As deputy website editor you’ll be responsible for online news, working with the news editor and a team of four reporters to make sure the right stories are getting written for the site, and for editing and uploading the finished articles.
We’re looking for a journalist with a good eye for detail and the ability to write and sub copy quickly and accurately. Ideally you’ll have experience of managing a news desk or section, as a key part of the job is working with the reporting team to ensure the correct balance is maintained between print and online workloads.
Experience of the housing sector is not essential, but the ability to demonstrate a keen interest in social issues, the public sector, policy and local and national politics would be a big advantage.
As well as overseeing the online news coverage the deputy website editor also has a range of other responsibilities, including:
- Working with the web support team to ensure daily and weekly email bulletins are updated and sent
- Overseeing the weekly upload of content from the print magazine to the website
- Commissioning, editing and uploading blogs
- Managing key social media channels including Twitter and Linked In.
Inside Housing is a well-established publication and has won numerous awards in recent years for our online and print journalism. The website is a key part of our offering and this role would present the right candidate with a great opportunity to take forward this crucial area of Inside Housing as digital media continues to evolve.
