News Editor, B2B title, West Sussex. £35k + benefits package
We’re working with a flagship B2B title operating within the energy & utility sectors to find a news editor. This is a key role on the team and the successful individual will be a big hitter with the personality to make a name for themselves in the sector, as well as the tact and maturity to manage change and develop the team. Relationship building – both internally and externally – is crucial to the success of this role.
The title has a strong, solid reputation and considerable gravitas. The title is building on its strong print backbone with a wider web offering. News is the engine room driving everything the brand does this is a crucial appointment for our client.
- Successful track record of delivering hard hitting exclusives preferably in a B2B environment
- Experience of managing and mentoring less experienced reporters to build contacts and deliver stories
- Experience of financial news; numerate with the ability to understand company accounts and pluck stories from a spreadsheet
- Experience of a web first news environment
- Experience of delivering a suite of email alerts, eg breaking news, daily alert etc
- Experience of writing news analysis
- Skilled editor and rewriter
- Visual aptitude; an interest in design, particularly graphical design
- Knowledge of utility industry desirable although not essential
- Ability to represent the brand and build contacts at a senior level
- Increasing the quality and volume of online news, leading to an appreciable rise in traffic
- Devising and implementing a suite of news-based email alerts, leading to an appreciable rise in traffic
- Delivering a high quality print news section to weekly deadlines
- Delivering high quality analysis services across print and online
- Personally developing a finance and investment patch; building a network of contacts and delivering stories
- Developing the skills in the team, leading to more and better stories
- Stories picked up by the national media; developing UW’s national profile through actively seeking opportunities to comment etc
- Building a personal social media profile
