The Local seeks reporter in Rome - immediate start

The Local is expanding its news network and will soon launch in Italy. We are seeking a reporter to join our growing team of internationally-minded, driven, ambitious and clued-up journalists.

As reporter, you will work closely with your country editor to cover the daily news and develop content on thelocal.it.

You will be based in our office on Corso Italia in central Rome, close to the Spanish Steps.

Around three million unique visitors a month already engage with The Local’s news and information across our English-language sites.

As we continue to expand across Europe, you will be joining a young and dynamic team that is exploiting the web to its full potential.

What we expect from you:

• An exceptional level of written and spoken English (native speaker or equivalent).
• Excellent Italian skills.
• The ability to write clear, concise and engaging news stories and features. • Experience of translating from Italian to English and an ability to turn flowing Italian prose into equally flowing English prose.

• At least two years’ experience in an editorial role.
• A knowledge of journalistic ethics and good practice.
• A good knowledge of Italian society, politics and institutions.
• Curiosity; a desire to lift the lid on major issues affecting society.
• Flexibility; the ability to work some unsocial hours as needed, sometimes at short notice.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Familiarity with social media.
• Familiarity with blogging, online publishing, sound recording and photo editing are an advantage.
• A knowledge of major languages other than English and Italian (particularly German, French and Spanish) would be useful.

Making a commitment to our team will give you the chance to pursue an exciting, international journalism career. The job is full time. Pay competitive.
