Employer Description (Brand)
Ground Engineering provides business and technical updates for a niche sector within the civil engineering sector and, with 30% of readers outside of the UK, the magazine has a strong international reputation.
Throughout its 46 year history the magazine has built a strong reputation with academics, consultants, contractors and clients working in the geotechnical market for in-depth reporting and insightful coverage of the sector.
EMAP is based in the vibrant Shoreditch/Old Street area, famed as the ‘Digital Hub’ of London boasting a huge variety of shops, bars and restaurants.
Our offices are modern, open planned (built around a ‘dynamic working culture’ of hot-desking) and spacious, boasting kitchens on each floor and working areas designed for private and collaborative working – breakout areas with leather sofas and a library.
The geotechnics market is currently going through a sharp growth period following the recession and, with projects like HS2, Thames Tideway and the Northern Line Extension on the horizon, prospects look good.
As well as reporting on this growth, Ground Engineering magazine also has plans to expand its digital products and events, as well as the core magazine, which is why we are now recruiting for an ambitious reporter to join the brand.
Ground Engineering is the only magazine reporting on the UK’s geotechnics market but it is more than just a print magazine with thriving conferences and awards programmes and an iPad edition. Your role will be to support all of these functions and help the brand move into the next stage of its growth plan and work on the launch of a new website for the magazine.
As a reporter for Ground Engineering, you will develop industry-leading contacts that will ensure you bring in and break exclusive, off-diary stories that contribute to our digital-first news policy. You will also develop knowledge of upcoming major projects and use industry contracts to develop leads and write interesting or unusual feature articles for the magazine. You will have an ability to write in both news and feature styles appropriate for a professional audience.
Salary & Benefits
The right candidate will have a keen interest in business and technical journalism and will want to join a title where our content is at the heart of our growth. We offer a competitive salary, benefits and the chance to develop your skills and further your career as part of an enthusiastic and growing news team.
- You will develop good relationships within the sector that will help the brand break the news stories.
- You will be diligent, organised and constantly wish to enhance the reader’s experience of our content.
- You will need a passion for current affairs, a competitive approach to story gathering and a strong news-writing style appropriate for a professional audience.
- You will have a recognised journalism qualification, and shorthand training is preferable.
