The Position

A senior reporter is needed to work across two of the accounting and finance community’s strongest and most established brands – Accountancy Age and Financial Director.

Writing for the most senior accountants in practice or business, our reporters will look to break news, build up contact bases and interview high-profile and influential business leaders for analyses and features.

The role provides opportunities to work in the fast-paced areas of digital and apps, as well as print. Using social media to communicate with our audiences is also key, alongside taking part in online and face-to-face events and seminars.

Working across Accountancy Age and Financial Director provides journalists with a wide number of opportunities. You benefit from working within a close-knit team, but are given licence to operate autonomously and build up deep sector knowledge and contacts. Deeper analysis and feature-writing is encouraged, as is stepping-up to take on editing responsibilities.

With audit, corporate governance and tax issues now of public interest, we strive to beat the national business desks to stories, and drive the agenda. As such, the brands are well known for subsequently providing those business desks with journalists, from The Guardian to The Daily Mail.

The Candidate
  • You must be driven, positive, resilient and personable.
  • Possess previous demonstrable experience in news journalism
  • A background working on a business publication
  • Comfortable sourcing and writing “exclusive” breaking and off-diary news
  • Able to come up with new and innovative features
  • The ability to build working relationships with senior industry contacts
  • Willing to learn, and to take on board new ideas and responsibilities
  • Willing to use own initiative at all times
  • Self-motivated, disciplined and hard working
