The Online News Association (ONA) has announced the finalists for its 2008 awards.

Prizes in 21 categories, including best breaking news site and best multimedia feature, will be handed out on September 13 at the ONA Conference in Washington.

Online reporting of natural disasters features heavily among the nominees, with LATimes.com and the San Diego Union Tribune receiving nods for their coverage of the California wild fires.

The Oregonian's storm map and Tenessean.com's tornado reportage are also in the running for an accolade.

A multimedia tribute from The Roanoke Times marking the anniversary of the Virgina Tech shootings is up against Adrian Holovaty's local data and news aggregation service Everyblock for the Outstanding Use of Digital Technology, Small Site, award.

A full list of the finalists is available on the ONA news site.
