The Online Media Awards have opened for entry, allowing "media owners" to submit their organisations for consideration in 24 categories, seven of which are new additions.

According to the awards website, a media owner is an entity that: "Operates as an independently branded website, under the control of a single editor or identifiable editorial team which generates its own unique topical content, as well as providing a platform for its overall community. The site should also contain an element of objective news, analysis and topical comment in addition to editorial and opinion content."

New additions for this year's awards, which are organised by The Drum, include best app, best freelance writer, best photographer, best lifestyle/leisure news site, best business/finance news site, best health/education news site and outstanding digital team of the year.

The 2012 awards ceremony was a good night for the Guardian, as they picked up five awards, including best website, best technical innovation and best use of social media for Paul Lewis's Twitter coverage of the 2011 riots.

It costs £69 +VAT to submit and entry, and outlets have until 10 April to submit their applications. This year's ceremony will be held on 12 June at the Emirates Stadium in London.
