Campaigning journalist Paul Foot, who died in 2004
The award, in its eight year after being established by Private Eye and the Guardian following Paul Foot's death in 2004, recognises examples of campaigning journalism in the UK published in a newspaper, magazine or on a website.
Submissions for the 2012 round of the award must be for content published between 1 November 2011 and 31 October 2012. The closing date for submissions is 12 November.
The winner will receive £5,000, with £1,000 given to five runners-up. According to a release "individual journalists, teams of journalists or entire publications may enter, and entries will be considered for anything from single pieces to entire campaigns".
Earlier this year Guardian journalist Nick Davies was named the winner of the 2011 Paul Foot Award for his investigation into the phone-hacking scandal.
