Freelance journalists represent an international and diverse community -  a quick look at Journalism.co.uk's map of freelancers and freelance photographers will show you that.

Each fortnight we feature individual freelancers from our directory to find out more about their career, but now we've started a feature looking at what freelance journalists are working on right now.

Below is the second piece in what we hope will become a regular series - to get in touch email us or send us your news via Twitter to @journalismnews.

Joe Griffin
Freelancer Joe Griffin is starting a weekly film news column for the Irish Independent. The new feature will appear every Friday in the paper's Day & Night section from January 2010.

Griffin is based in Dublin and also writes regularly the Irish Times and Irish Examiner, as well as doing some magazine and broadcast work. He has recently returned to freelancing full-time after a brief stint in a PR role.

Linda Jones
Freelance journalist and author Jones has started a regular advice section for freelancers on her website. The Write Away series was set up to answer some of the questions on freelance writing Jones receives from bloggers via her website.

So far advice has been given on negotiating freelance rates, writing for blogs and starting out as a freelance.

To put a question to Write Away, leave a comment on this article or email linda [at] passionatemedia.co.uk.

Richard Johnson
Recent Journalism.co.uk freelancer of the fortnight, Richard Johnson had his travel feature on Argentina and Chile published in the Mail on Sunday. A video also produced by Johnson appeared alongside the feature on Mail Online.

Christian Dunn
Former digital editor for NWN Media, Christian Dunn, who has recently gone back to university to study for a PhD in geo-engineering, specifically looking at the carbon cycle in wetlands, is fitting in some freelance work around his study.

Dunn is available for commissions on web and technology articles and, given his choice of PhD, science and the environment. Generally he specialises in technology, science, environment, google, social networking, green issues, conservation, scuba diving, and carbon trading.

He is also available for search engine optimisation consultancy and web management work. He can be contacted via his blog.
