The Birmingham Post's picture editor is going freelance, after five years in the position.
Simon Hadley, who has 20 years experience as a photographer, eight of them at the Birmingham Post, wrote on his blog for the newspaper site that he is 'on the verge' of going solo.
"I am now looking forward to doing what I enjoy most, taking pictures," he wrote.
"After all the activity of the last couple of months (sorting out equipment, computers, communications, etc etc etc) the reality of being self employed is coming home to me and ... I am really enjoying it!"
"I am certain everyone will be very pleased to hear that I am going to continue with my blog posts - I know that they have been quite sporadic so far," he admits.
"However, now that I am freelance I may have more time to do them," he said.
