Mr Mahon, who will report to managing director Mark Milner, will work across the newspaper companion sites and the network of 30 regional news and information sites that fall under the "thisis" brand.
Mr Milner said: "Since we created AN Digital earlier this year, we've expanded rapidly and have needed to create an overall marketing role for our companion sites. Sean's expertise and experience fit perfectly with the new role."
