Another senior figure connected to the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers (WAN-IFRA) has left to head a new global news media association.

Martha Stone, former director of the Shaping the Future of the Newspaper project at WAN-IFRA, is now CEO of the World Newsmedia Network (WNMN), according to the organisation's website.

Her departure follows that of Bertrand Pecquerie, director of WAN-IFRA's World Editors Forum earlier this year, to join the new Global Editors Network as CEO.

Launched this week, the WNMN is a not-for-profit association which claims to be "devoted to advocacy on the media industry's key issues, and actionable strategies for revenue making".

According to its website the association will produce events, research and negotiate on behalf of media owners on issues of revenue partnerships, content access and free press.

Other senior members of the team are Leah Mensching, director of editorial strategy and development, who project managed the SFNBlog.com at WAN-IFRA and will now produce NewsBizBlog.org at WMNM and Erina Lin, director of business analysis and development.

Lin previously project managed the World Digital Media Trends report at WAN-IFRA and will now manage the World Newsmedia Digital Revenue & Usage Trends yearbook for WNMN.

"We are the same research team as before, but now we are independent," Stone told Journalism.co.uk.

"I think the time has come that we have a media association to reflect the way the media organisations currently are organised, which is in a multimedia fashion," Stone said. "This is the first time that there is a media association to reflect the media landscape as it is."
