Web portal AOL has launched a new service that allows users to custom build their own news home page.

The trial version of My AOL offers video and RSS news feeds from AOL's directory, and users can also add feeds from their own favourite sites and blogs.

"My AOL provides a convenient solution for a usually time-consuming ritual of visiting multiple websites and blogs multiple times each day to catch up on news," said Kerry Parkins, director of audience products at AOL.

Similar services are offered by Yahoo and most recently Google, but all three publishers have avoided use of the term RSS in an attempt to make the feature more user-friendly.
