News nominees for this year's Webby Awards include allAfrica.com and poynter.org as well as old favourite BBC news online.

The awards ceremony, due to be held on 18 June in San Francisco, is now in its sixth year and is gaining ever-greater popularity and media exposure.

Also competing for the 'News' prize are Arts and Letters Daily (aldaily.com) and Debkafile (debka.com). Washingtonpost.com is up for a 'Politics' prize and Salon.com is competing in the 'Print and Zines' category. The BBC is represented again in the 'Radio' category, for its Radio Four web site.

This year's ceremony will also have three new categories; 'Top US Property', 'Top Global Property', and 'Rising Star'.

The International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences, which boasts members as diverse as David Bowie and Stephen Hawking, presents the awards, but they are based on NetRating and Nielsen's internet audience rankings.
