The BBC has published a nine-point manifesto detailing its vision for its future and how it will encourage the take up of digital services across the UK.

Announced on Monday, the action plan 'Building public value: renewing the BBC for a digital world' will contribute to the government's consultation and debate leading up to the corporation's charter renewal in 2006.

"Creating a fully digital Britain is a public challenge the BBC must help to lead," new director-general Mark Thompson told an invited audience.

"We look forward to a future where the public has access to a treasure house of digital content; a store of value that spans media and platforms, develops and grows over time, which the public own and can use freely in perpetuity."

The manifesto includes plans for making the BBC more open and accountable, modernising the licence fee and encouraging active citizenship and learning.
