While Beckett stressed that he did not condone the actions of Brand and Ross, he said some alternative views on the situation were being under-reported in the 'mainstream media', citing that there had been support for Brand and Ross in some Radio1 forums.
Teenagers, he said, were talking about the story in different ways, a point he made on his blog this morning.
"Good journalists will point that [alternative view] out," he said.
He added that the BBC's own coverage of the event 'has been really rather good,' and journalists have not shied away from being critical.
"I do get a sense of the journalists saying 'you [comedians] don't have a sense of responsibility' (…) and they're giving the comedians a bit of a hard time," he added.
