The BBC, Sky and ITV are to appear before the Administration Committee later today, as witnesses in its "light-touch review" into "the current rules of coverage for the Chamber, Westminster Hall and Committees".

The inquiry, which was announced in December, will assess whether or not "any change is required" to the current set up following today's one-off evidence session.

It is understood that witnesses due to appear at 4:45pm include Peter Knowles, controller of BBC Parliament, Simon Mares, Westminster news editor for ITV regions and Esme Wren, political executive producer at BSkyB.

The committee will also hear from John Angeli, director of Parliamentary Broadcasting.

According to the committee the last revision of the rules took place in 2003.
