Monthly magazines Mortgage Distributor and Loan Distributor, which published their final print editions this month, are being taken online in response to the changing shape of both the financial and news industries, Anna Ruddock, the titles' publisher, told Journalism.co.uk.
The current crisis in financial markets, she added, was part of the decision to close the magazines, 'backing up' the publisher's idea to go online-only for editorial reasons.
"There's now a stronger demand for more up-to-date, daily news, which a website can provide more easily," said Ruddock.
"We've succeeded with that on Mortgage Strategy [a Centaur's weekly magazine and website] but it's something we have struggled with on a monthly."
A new online editor position will be created to cover both websites, Ruddock confirmed, which will mean the loss of one of editors from the print titles.
The existing Mortgage Distributor site will be relaunched to mark its rebirth. A new site for Loan Distributor will be come online in three weeks.
The new sites will focus more heavily on breaking news and greater interactivity with readers, added the publisher.
"We're going to actively encourage all our subscribers to get involved with the sites - we want to make them written by the industry for the industry," Ruddock said.
