Channel 4 News is looking for bright young bloggers in the UK as part of a new awards scheme and a new-look website.

The Channel 4 News Best Young Blogger in the UK competition is open to 16-24-year-olds who can blog "with passion, personality and genuine insight" about issues facing young people.

The winning entry, which will be judged by a panel including Channel 4 News presenters Krishnan Guru-Murthy and Jon Snow, will win a week-long spot on the Channel 4 News website. They will write a daily blog for the site and be given a tour of the programme's studio and newsroom.

"I've been blogging for our site for years now, and I love the way that one minute I could be blogging about an international conflict, the next musing on a strange incident that occurred on my cycle to work. The key is being inclusive and open about what it is that has captured your imagination that day," says Snow on the competition site.

"I know from the emails and tweets I receive every day that there are hundreds of young people who absolutely live their lives through their blogs and social networks, and this competition is a chance to celebrate that. I'm determined that our brilliant judging panel will find the very best young blogger out there - they've already blazed a trail in the blogosphere and now it's their turn to find a blogger who might just have the same impact."

Full details of how to enter are available on the Channel 4 News website, which has been relaunched this week with more prominence given to liveblogging and analysis, and reaction from readers and viewers. The site is building on the success of its use of liveblogging for events including the televised leaders' debates and its projects including FactCheck and crowdsourcing experiments.

The show's 7pm bulletin will be liveblogged each night on the website and the site's homepage now features a tab collecting Twitter updates from the programme's reporters and presenters to offer live, but personality-filled coverage, says a release from Channel 4 News.

The new site will include more information graphics and a new section Special Reports dedicated to in-depth reporting and analysis.
