CBS News has said will introduce tighter editorial controls over its web content after it was discovered that anchor Katie Couric read a plagiarised commentary on a video voice-over last week.

The New York Times reported that the producer who wrote the voice-over for the "Katie Couric's Notebook," section on how children use libraries in the age of the internet has since been fired.

The piece was removed from the CBS site and a correction issued after an editor at The Wall Street Journal informed them that it bore great similarly to a story carried in the Journal last month.

The Times reported that executives at CBS News were stunned that anyone would so blatantly copy someone else's work and were conducting an investigation to see if other contributions to the Notebook series had been plagiarised.
