CNN launched its free global iPad app today featuring breaking news, live video and hourly audio news updates.

The new iPad app, which is available on the App Store from today, gives users the ability to move between US and international news preferences. When in the former users can also listen to hourly audio news updates from CNN Radio.

The new app also features a user comment panel running alongside content while users can also share text stories, images and videos from the app via email, Facebook and Twitter.

"High quality, world-class journalism is what CNN does best, whether live breaking news, hard-hitting interviews or in-depth investigations, and our iPad app presents that content to the world in a wholly new way," KC Estenson, senior vice president and general manager of CNN.com said in a release.

Users can also choose from three viewing options: Broadsheet, the default view which presents up to 350 of the latest news stories in a grid-format with deeper viewing also enabled; List View, a running list of headlines by topic and category; and Slide Show, which allows users to scroll or swipe through a visual presentation of the day's top headlines.

CNN also announced that from today its iPhone and iPod Touch app in the US will now be available for free, while its international version launched earlier this year has had live breaking news video added as a new feature.
