Design WeekDesign Week magazine has taken its first solo steps into cyberspace by launching a standalone website.

Design Week's content was formerly only available on publisher Centaur's marketing, communications and advertising focused portal Mad.co.uk.

The new site will deliver daily breaking news and job alerts specifically to the design community.

Visitors and subscribers can register for daily news and job email alerts.

The site also carries a databank for job seekers to upload their CV and set up a profile for prospective employers to view. Magazine subscribers will also have access to a 15-year archive of back issues.

The site will add distribution through specialist RSS feeds over the next couple of months and developers hope to add further Web 2.0 elements in the near future.

Design Week follows other Centaur publications, Marketing Week and New Media Age, in creating a standalone web presence.

Morag Welham, publisher of Design Week, told Journalism.co.uk: "Design Week had a home page within Mad.co.uk through which our content was visible, but we didn't have anything like daily news or an active design only job site within that portal.

"It was probably a sensible thing to do at the time. We could have all gone off spent a lot of money on our individual sites and achieved not a lot.

"Now the web world has moved on so far and prices have come down so much we should all really have a much stronger influence of our brands online."

She added: "We now have a website that delivers design specific resources that have really not existed up till now."
