The UK has the second highest number of nominations in this year's annual Webby Awards, hosted by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences.

Fifty-eight British-based nominations have been made over 100 categories divided in four entry types: 'Website', 'Interactive Advertising', 'Online Film & Video', 'Mobile Web'. Website entries, with almost 70 categories, make up the biggest of the entry sections.

Two awards, to be named on June 8 2009 in New York, are given for each category: the 'Webby Award' is selected by a judging panel, and the 'People's Voice Award' is voted for by users.

British multiple nominees include the BBC with eight nominations, and Guardian.co.uk with six. For the full list of nominations visit the Webby site at this link.
