UK football news and gossip site Who Ate all the Pies is making the move into print and onto the iPad with a special magazine edition planned for December.
The magazine will be available to download for free on the iPad early next month. The price of the print edition will be disclosed closer to launch, according to a post on the Pies site.
The site is seeking editorial contributions from readers who want to see their ideas, footballing blog posts or matchday images included in the edition.
The magazine will be published by Pies owner Anorak Publishing, which bought the site in 2009 from Shiny Media. Shiny Media had had to close the site, saying it had been difficult to monetise.
Ashley Norris, formerly part of the management at Shiny Media who joined Anorak in 2009 and is head of its commercial operations, told Journalism.co.uk that the iPad offers opportunities for independent publishers to expand their brands.
"For me the print version and the iPad allows us [Anorak Publishing] to create content that doesn't work as well on the web. So the magazine will have lots of longer reads as well as some amazing pics. We see the magazine as part of the Pies community - and it is something that we think the readers will feel a part of and cherish," he said.
"We are doing it now because the costs of production of iPad magazines have fallen dramatically as has the cost of low-run printed magazines. For me the next few years are going to be fascinating. There are some great opportunities for small indie publishers to establish new brands in both print and tablet PC."
