Murdoch is the highest ranked news media figure on the list of 68, which for media figures looked at the size of their audience and their influence. Murdoch fell six places from 2009's list, which put him in 7th.
Bill Keller, executive editor of the New York Times, comes in at number 50 - one place higher than 2009's power list. Newcomer Julian Assange, founder of whistleblowing website WikiLeaks ends the 2010 list in 68th place.
BBC director general Mark Thompson did not make this year's list, which ranked Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg 10 spots above Keller at number 40. Thompson was placed at number 65 in 2009's rankings.
On Forbes' Power Women 2010 list, CNN anchor Katie Couric comes in at 22, while Arianna Huffington, founder and editor-in-chief of the Huffington Post, is placed at 28. Tina Brown, co-founder and editor-in-chief of the Daily Beast, also makes the top 100 in 34th.
Several US news anchors also make the list, which puts Vogue Cathleen Black, chair of Hearst Magazines in 67th, editor-in-chief Anna Wintour in 56th place, and founder of Deadline Hollywood Nikki Finke in 79th.
