Freedom, which publishes 33 daily newspapers and 77 weekly newspapers, will overhaul 40 websites as part of the redesign, including the sites for the company's television stations.
Newspaper sites including The Orange County Register and the Shelby Star will be revamped as part of the plans to give more prominence to breaking news, a press release from Freedom said.
Increased video content, photo sharing and readers' blogs will also be introduced to the websites.
"We are committed to continually improving our website experience based on our customers' needs and preferences. We are confident that our new redesign project will enhance our users' interaction across our network of websites," said Michael Mathieu, president of Freedom's Interactive division, which will carry out the redesign project.
