Online-only world news agency GlobalPost has taken another step towards its vision of filling 'the enormous void' in foreign news reporting for Americans by signing a syndication deal with two US newspapers.

The Boston-based enterprise, which launched its web-based news service on January 12, will now provide print and online content to the New York Daily News and New Jersey's Star-Ledger.

The site previously entered partnerships with The Huffington Post's world news section and Vietnamese news site VietNamNet.

Speaking in a press release, Star-Ledger editor Jim Willse said the arrangement would help the paper maintain its international coverage despite 'shrinking editorial resources'.

"We are encouraged that delivering well-reported news, analysis and perspectives from around the world to their [the newspapers] readerships remains a priority," added GlobalPost co-founder and CEO Philip Balboni, in the release.

"Our syndication service provides a valuable resource to news publishers by allowing them to tap into the reporting provided by our extraordinary team of correspondents and to do so in a very cost-effective way."

Earlier this month, Balboni told Journalism.co.uk the internet provided the only possible future for the journalism industry.
