Mediabuddies.com was launched in London on 16 June by journalist and public relations executive David Davis. Journalists from print, broadcast and the web can register with the site, alongside PR, marketing and advertising specialists, to re-establish friendships and working relationships around the globe.
From late summer the annual fee will be £10, although registration is currently free for those signing up as founder members.
Mr Davis told dotJournalism that more than 100 registrations were received in the first ten days.
"We're very excited - the site has been getting a lot of interest," he said. "We've had members sign up from the UK, the continent, the US and even Russia.
"The media is an inter-related, fast moving and highly mobile world in which people quickly make friends and contacts - then as situations change they can just as quickly lose touch with one another."
Mr Davis was inspired to create the site to contact former colleagues from The Press Association, The Times and Edelman Public Relations.
He hopes to develop the project to include reunion events in 2004. "We're also developing links with three or four high-profile patrons that will lend their names to the site. These will be announced in July," Mr Davis added.
Other web-based contact sites, such as friendsreunited.co.uk, have been hugely successful; nearly eight million users are now registered with the site.
