http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programmes/newsnight/default.stmJeremy Paxman is the latest journalist to venture into the world of podcasting with a new weekly audio package of Newsnight highlights.

Hourly news bulletins and key interviews are being chosen for the next part of the BBC's trial, which runs until June and will extend the range of podcasts to 50.

Several flagship Radio 4 programmes are to be added including Front Row, Woman's Hour, Today in Parliament and Start the Week. A World Service news summary and highlights from more shows on Radio 1, Radio 3 and Five Live are also planned.

"The feedback we get from the trial is helping to inform our strategy for 'audio on demand', giving listeners the control they are becoming increasingly used to in the digital world," said Simon Nelson, controller of BBC Radio & Music Interactive.

"Downloading and podcasting are potentially fantastic ways for us to make our on-demand programmes as accessible as live radio always has been."

• A recent survey of members of the Association of Publishers found that more than half of publishers plan to introduce podcasts in the next year. Thirty-five per cent said they had already launched podcasts. A lack of relevant skills, an uncertain business model and cost were all cited as reasons for not exploring the format.
