The library, which has been created by former press photographer Stewart Goldstein and former Times financial journalist David Davis, offers more than 100,000 original images.
Relevant video footage is also available from Medicimage, which owns the majority of the copyright and intellectual property rights of the content in the image bank.
The site, which contains content created on location inside hospitals around the world, aims to address the ‘under-served medical niche’ in the global image market.
"Medicimage is a unique collection of newsworthy up-to-the-minute images of medical and health topics which are making headlines somewhere in the world every day,” said Davis in a press statement.
A lifestyle section of the library will provide images and video content for health and beauty, fitness, and food issues.
Plans are also underway to launch an online radio station covering news from the medical industry through the site.
