Currently the site - www.freeex.org - covers news from Albania, Hungary, Croatia, Romania, Ukraine and Yugoslavia. The site covers specific cases of abuse, discussion, media law and information about different members.
The initiative was co-ordinated by the Media Monitoring Agency - Academia Catavencu in Romania with support from USAID and Freedom House.
FreeEx says its mission is to 'develop a comprehensive regional effort to monitor, document, and report on abusive treatment taken by governments and unofficial forces to intimidate or punish journalists'.
