Link journalism project Publish2, copyright tracking firm Attributor and News Mixer have been named amongst the finalists for this year's Online News Association (ONA) awards.

The innovative online journalism projects have been shortlisted alongside BBC News Online, the New York Times and Rue89 for the 2009 awards, which this year include a category for microsites.

The new category is just one addition to the prizes to acknowledge both new technology and the influence of independent digital journalists, the organisation said.

This year six of the awards also offer prize money of $30,000 in total with the organisations behind the cash prize sponsoring their own award categories.

These include the Gannett Foundation, which is behind the new Technical Innovation in the Service of Digital Journalism prize; and the Knight Foundation's new Public Service award.

The full list of finalists for the 29 award categories, which were selected by a team of 12 journalists, can be viewed at this link.

The winners will be announced on Saturday October 3 at the 2009 ONA Conference and Online Journalism Awards Banquet in San Francisco.
