eTownCrier.com allows anyone in the community to write about local topics such as news about a missing pet, or a forthcoming jumble sale. They can also upload digital photographs, comment on stories, participate in online votes on local issues and advertise in the free classifieds section.
The best published written item or photography each month will receive a $100 prize.
The site owners say the inspiration for the site is the town crier, who historically was responsible for not only spreading news, but also provoking debate amongst local people.
The site owners also claim that editing of submitted content will be minimal.
