Paul Brannan

Paul Brannan was leading the Channel 4 News website along with social media and mobile operations

Paul Brannan, who was appointed senior programme editor at Channel 4 News last year, will be leaving at the end of next week.

It is understood that Brannan, who was previously editor of emerging platforms at the BBC, joined Channel 4 News in June 2011 on a pre-arranged fixed contract, leading its online team and overseeing the development of news apps.

There are no more details available on what he will be pursuing next at this stage.

In his role at Channel 4 News Brannan led operations relating to the website, social media and mobile, with the channel's news app launched on tablet and Android during his time at the broadcaster.

Brannan said: "I’ve loved working with this team of inspiring journalists – across the online team and on the programme. During my time here, they’ve helped us boost the online figures to record highs, delivered some brilliant online exclusives and continued to take brands such as FactCheck from strength to strength.

"We’ve also launched a couple of great online projects that I look forward to watching progress as a loyal and passionate Channel 4 News website user."

Deputy editor of Channel 4 News Martin Fewell, who will continue to lead the online team, added: "It has been fantastic to have someone as experienced as Paul leading our digital team for the last few months.

"He has overseen the launch of a number of successful projects, most recently our interactive investigation into disabled access to public transport – NoGo Britain – and he has worked with us at a time when our online audience and social media following has continued to shoot through the roof. We wish him all the best for his future endeavours and will give further updates on the online team in due course."
