Polish media group Agora is looking for innovative online ideas and startups to take part in its competition for internet entrepreneurs.

The group is organising Startup Fest to be held in Warsaw between 11 and 12 October, where new companies will pitch their ideas to the group and compete for a prize of 50,000 Zloty (around £11,000) and an advertising campaign worth 100,000 Zloty (around £22,000).

To take part in the event, applicants had to sign up before 30 September. But speaking to Journalism.co.uk, internet product manager for Agora Adam Mazan said the festival was part of a wider push to support entreprenueurship and innovation.

The group is particularly interested in startups that offer new business models for online publishing, he said.

"It is important to remember that we are not an investment fund, but a media company wishing to develop itself and the projects we invest in. Thus we will look at each case on an individual basis and strive to support it in an adequate manner. We will certainly be keener on investing substantial capital in high-potential projects, than in other, smaller ventures, where our know-how and promotional support are enough," said Mazan, adding that interested parties can email him directly.

The media group already has a history of linking up with innovative startups having invested in online advertising technology firm AdTaily, which it has since expanded outside of Poland.

The group is interested in helping new ideas and startups formulate long-term plans and sustainable businesses.

"During such collaboration we usually contribute our assets - experience, contents, sales opportunities - to the project. The more complementary a venture is with respect to our growth strategy, the more chances we can offer," said Mazan.
