Guardian.co.uk, followed by the Telegraph, has bumped Mail Online from the top spot and recorded the highest number of monthly unique users last month, according to the latest figures from the Audit Bureau of Circulations Electronic (ABCe).

Guardian.co.uk, Telegraph.co.uk and Mail Online all passed the 30 million monthly unique user mark for the first time.

Following the traffic decrease recorded by newspapers month-on-month in August, Guardian News & Media's traffic was up 23.62 per cent month-on-month, recording just under 33 million unique users, a 36.25 per cent year-on-year rise.

Telegraph.co.uk overtook the Mail with 31,016,789 unique users for the month, followed by the Mail Online, which posted 30,042,463 unique users for the same period.

The Independent saw improvement this month, up 9.17 per cent month-on-month to 8,787,141. In contrast with the August figures where no newspaper site saw a month-on-month increase, only the Sun, Times and Mirror saw slight drop-offs month-on-month for September.

Every title saw an increase year-on-year except for the Times, which dropped off by -8.95 per cent to 18,502,839.

The bureau's report also includes figures on average daily unique user figures for the sites, as shown below.

The full figures for the six audited titles and Mirror Group's websites are listed below. The percentage in brackets indicates the month-on-month change compared with the August ABCe report:

Average daily unique users: 1,773,136 (5.13 per cent)

Times Online
Unique users: 18,502,839 ( -1.26 per cent); -8.95 per cent year-on-year
Average daily unique users: 1,016,481 ( 1.57 per cent)

TheSun.co.uk
Unique users: 22,994,391( -3.40 per cent); 45.69 per cent year-on-year
Average daily unique users: 1,370,634 (-2.88 per cent)

Independent.co.uk
Unique users: 8,787,141 (9.17 per cent);  9.89 per cent year-on-year
Average daily unique users: 403,988 (10.11 per cent)

Mirror Group
Unique users: 8,930,691 ( -1.22 per cent); 69.79 per cent year-on-year
Average daily unique users: 427,741 ( -3.16 per cent)
