Simon Rogers
Guardian journalist Simon Rogers is the first person to be publicly nominated for a new City University alumni award, which aims to recognise excellence and innovation in journalism.

Rogers, who completed a newspaper journalism course at City University in 1991, is the editor of the Guardian's Datablog and Datastore. He received a special commendation when the Datablog won a Royal Statistcal Society award last year.

Six journalists have been shortlisted for the XCity award in total. A post on the XCity magazine website says other shortlisted candidates will be revealed over the next few days.

The winner will receive a £500 prize.
