BBC's web radio booms

The BBC's radio websites recorded seven million unique users during January 2005 - the biggest ever audience for BBC radio and a 70 per cent increase from January 2004.

Radio 1 and Radio 4 programmes topped the list of January's most popular on-demand shows, with cult soap opera the Archers and Chris Moyle's irreverent breakfast show topping the list.

Users listened to 4.2 million hours of on-demand radio with the BBC's digital-only stations making up a significant 1.2 million hours.

Problems with audio servers during December and January meant that many listeners could not use the site's 'listen now' function. Those problems have now been fixed, said the corporation.
