BBC opens doors to trainee journalists

The BBC is inviting applications for its fifth News Sponsorship Scheme which provides training and paid work experience placements to broadcast journalism students.

The scheme is open to students about to begin a BJTC accredited postgraduate course in broadcast journalism.

Successful applicants will have their course fees paid and receive a £3,500 contribution towards living expenses. Places will be offered in four of the BBC's newsrooms in London, Belfast, Cardiff and Glasgow.

The scheme begins in September with a two-day induction at BBC Television Centre in London. Students will be mentored by experienced BBC journalists throughout the course and will also receive guidance when they start job hunting.

Previous students have gone on to work for News Interactive, NEWS 24, the World Service and Radio 4.

Application forms can be downloaded from the BBC site at http://www.bbc.co.uk/jobs/nss. The deadline for applications is 13 May.
