Public turns to BBC online for London blasts updatesBBC News was the most popular online news site during yesterday's attacks on London, according to data just released by web monitoring firm Hitwise.

The BBC website recorded 35 per cent of all page impressions to online news sites yesterday.

Sky News was the next most accessed news site with 3.78 per cent of page impressions. Guardian Unlimited recorded 1.51 per cent and Yahoo! UK & Ireland News recorded 1.86 per cent.

CNN.com, The Sun and MSNBC also attracted between 1.3 and 1.6 per cent of overall page impressions for online news traffic.

Related sites also saw a significant rise in traffic as users joined debates about the blasts during the day.

Transport for London was the 70th most visited site in the UK, and demand for information from Liftshare and ferry site Thames Clippers was high as workers looked for alternative ways to get home.
