The University of Bolton is offering UK students the chance to apply for one of 30 bursaries worth £3,000 each to study for an MA in Photography in the UK and in China.

Only UK-based applicants are eligible and, although they do not need to have previously studied photography, an extensive portfolio is required.

The scheme, which is scheduled to start in January 2007 and is funded through Paradigm, a project aimed at developing growth in the creative industries supported by the European Social Fund, is open to just 10 students.

Rebecca Albrow, creative industries project manager at the University of Bolton, said: "Due to this excellent funding opportunity we are able to subsidise the course down to £450 full-time.

"This is an exciting opportunity for creatives to keep up to date with their practice in an increasingly evolving industry."

The course will be taught simultaneously at at the University of Bolton, UK and at the Medical University of Dalian, China. Students will be able to switch between locations and there are no differences in the skills taught.

The bursaries provide students with an excellent opportunity to study international photography "alongside students with very different visual references", said David Clark, China MA programme leader.

There are two application deadlines for the course, 9 June and 3 November 2006. An application can be downloaded here.

Forms should be completed and emailed to the appropriate course leader depending on which country you wish to base your studying. For further information, visit the University of Bolton's MA Photography site.
