The BBC dominates mobile web news use, according to a market survey.

Mobile content market research firm Telephia conducted a study of 8,000 web users to discover their mobile news habits.

Presenting the research at the World Digital Publishing conference in London, Reza Chady of Telephia UK, said that recognisable brands prospered best on mobile web as they tailored their news to fit the format of limited screen size and short session lengths.

The BBC, he said, was the leading mobile web news supplier, accounting for 28 per cent of visited mobile web sites during the third quarter of 2006. The next highest was Sky with 11 per cent during the same quarter.

BBC and Sky similarly dominated fledgling mobile TV news services.
